Flight of Challenge (Just For Fun #14)

The Friday challenge on the Just For Fun Rubber Stamps blog this week (Color Challenge #14) is Monochromatic - Shades of Any One Color. Of course the NWFlamingo chose PINK! The inside background stamp is from Just For Fun and I thought highlighted the dots on the plastic frame. The flamingo is a Viva Las Vegas Stamps stamp. The little plastic frame item that forms the flap on the card front is from Heidi Grace.

The purse is make from a piece of wide light pink ribbon, with a narrower, darker pink ribbon for the band. The purse kind of poofs out at the bottom like a real handbag because I put a pleat in the bottom. It looks flat because I had to use the scanner as the camera just wasn't able to handle all the dimension. I left the card blank for a future use.

Flight of Challenge (Just For Fun #13))

Well gee whiz...who knew Just For Fun Stamps had themselves a blog with challenges and a Design Team and everything good like that? Just For Fun used to come out to the west coast for stamp conventions, at least I remember them for many years at Puyallup. They always had one of my favorite make and takes at the show. They also used to have a "club" with directions for a project online that they would post and give you a discount if you ordered the stamps for that project. Once in a great while I will get an e-mail announcing an on-line sale. I thought maybe they had disappeared but an e-mail came announcing their blog. Seems it has been going on since February. As I said, who knew?

This week the challenge is to use orange, black and white in a card. Being a proud Oregon State University graduate I couldn't pass up an opportunity to use orange and black! The card was cut from Worldwin Doublemates paper using a Sizzix XL Bigz die. The stamp I used on the front of the card is one of the last ones I remember ordering from Just For Fun.

The viewers are stamped on white with black pigment ink and embossed with black embossing powder. The words(outside and inside) I typed on the computer and cut out. Inside the stamps on the pop-up are from G-rated Rubber stamps (another great company that seems to have disappeared, at least from the stamp show circut). I used an orange Sharpie to color in the Happy Birthday, an orange Sakura glaze pen on the streamers and stars in the letter backgrounds and a black Copic marker on the borders. The piece was scalloped using a Stampin'Up scallop border punch. The glasses were cut on my Cricut(Paisley cartridge) as well as the 3 and D (Lyrical Letters cartridge). I had some red and blue plastic film from florist bouquets to complete the 3D glasses authentic look.

Maybe with the blog "popping up" this will signal a bunch of new Just For Fun stamps and with any luck we will see them back on the west coast at the Heirloom Puyallup Stamp Show where this year there seemed to be a lot more buyers than vendors.

Flight of Challenge (Moxie Fab Taintor-tude)

The Moxie Fab World blog is featuring a "Taintor-tude Challenge". You are to pattern your card after the work of Anne Taintor, with her ladies from the 50's with their sassy sayings. In this attempt I started with two American Art Stamps stamps, the woman with a plunger saying "Cheers"(now hidden by the rose) and the rose stamp (used as background on the pink paper). The caption reads, "Don't get excited. Everything is coming up roses because that is all I planted.". I was actually practicing making paper grunge roses and ruffles and I thought this "modern" lady in her floral print dress and Converse tennis shoes was much more suited to the theme than any "vintage" type image I could find. I'm sure you'll agree that the attitude spans the decades!

The Moxie Fab World blog is featuring a "Taintor-tude Challenge". You are to pattern your card after the work of Anne Taintor, with her ladies from the 50's with their sassy sayings. Here my "Art Declassified" stamped lady is ready for love, "Be still my beating heart I cannot hear the tv". Talk about priorities! I used a Dymo Caption maker with the lower case script wheel with white on black to add a slightly modern twist. The word LOVE is cut out of pieces of velvet ribbon using the Sizzix "Girls are Weird" Sizzlets dies.

Flight of Challenge (365 cards- Day 317)

The challenge for Day 317 on 365 Cards was "Crazy Eight", use eight colors on your card. It is almost impossible to see all the colors in this because it is that multi-color foil stuff providing the color and the scanner or the camera just doesn't do it justice. So there is black and gold (obviously) and red, blue, green, orange, purple and pink. If you don't think black is a color, then I will describe the two shades of pink as carnation pink and magenta so you can still count it as an eight color card.

Flight of Challenge (365 cards- Day 318)

365 Cards challenge 318 is called Home Sweet Home. You were supposed to put a house on your card. I finally managed to find this Impression Obsession stamp so it, along with Flower Soft, is the card. I cut the door so it would open and there is a nutcracker stamped inside(source unknown) because this is a thank you for another Christmas present. My Christmas thank you cards are coming out as slow as molasses in January. The inside features the nutcracker standing inside a room cut from a magazine ad, but I won't show it as I forgot to take a picture before I wrote on the card.

Flight of Challenge (365 cards- Day 315(aka 314 part 2))

I wasn't going to do the 365 challenge today, but the challenge was based on an ad (see top photo) and all sorts of things started popping into my head so I went ahead and gave it a whirl. The windmill stamp (Scarlet Empress) came out of the drawer first. That stamp reminded me of a windmill I saw in the Black Forest in Germany years ago. There was no grass, so I had to add it with a stamp (Ann-ticipations). Not having a stool I cut off the back of the chair of the Mary Engelbreit stamp (All Night Media) "The Crab" along with the words. I used brads turned sideways to act as clothespins because I really wanted that 3-D effect of fabric being clipped onto a clothesline. The fence is a piece of paper punched from a Martha Stewart punch.

The sentiments (inside and out) of course were done on the computer. I'm not really sure what this ad was selling (the stool? the poster?) , but this makes a dandy get well card. You can click on the photo of the card if you want to enlarge it so you can read it easier.

Flight of Challenge (365 cards- Day 314)

Maybe it's all the news about the coming of 3-D TV that has got me into the 3-D card mode. Today the challenge at 365 cards is to add something braided to your card. I've got four pieces of plastic coated wire braided together with a piece of ribbon to make the wreath on the front of the card. The card was cut on my Cricut using the Wild Card cartridge. The stamp is from All Night Media, however I have removed the sentiment and and drew in some Christmas cookies where the original image has a loaf of bread and a can of chicken soup coming out of the grocery bag. I'm going to write a thank you note in miniature writing in the speech bubble. (I usually get Christmas thank-you notes written earlier, but ...)

Flight of Challenge (365 cards- Day 302)

It has been a long time, but here I am back at a 365 cards challenge. Today is Super Sketchy Sunday and you can see my card above and the sketch below it. A while ago I found some bags of Crayola Model Magic in my studio and one must have been punctured as it was hard as a brick from air drying. The others were still soft so I decided to have a clay play day and I got out molds and charms and played to my heart's content. The hummingbird was one of those creations, made with a flexible mold from Sweet Briar Studio, then colored with old Radiant Pearls and then made even shinier with Pearl-ex. I experimented using two different Cuttlebug embossing folders on the card base, one in just the upper right hand corner took some manipulation using the Sizzix Big Shot, but I think it really pumped up the "3-Dness" (is that a word?) of the card. If you click on the photo of the card you can really get a better idea of how 3-D it really appears.

Here is a 3 for 1 card. First it is for the Card positioning Systems Sketch challenge # 128 (see top photo). Next it qualifies for this week's Pile It On!(#10) - No patterned paper. Finally it qualifies for Rubbernecker Wacky Wednesday #23 - Flowers. I built it so the little tabs on the outside right fit into slots on the larger left tab.

Flight of Challenge (365 cards- Day 161)

WooHoo! I got my "giddy-up" going and finished an entire week at 365 Cards. Today, Day 161, the challenge is called Cool Collage. The goal is to cover every part of your card with something, no blank spaces allowed.

My image is from a page of part of an old children's book. I only have a few pages, so I don't know the name of the book. The polka dot paper is from Doodlebug Designs and the plaid red paper is from a tablet I've had for years, which may have come from Current, but I don't really remember. The puffy alphabet stickers are from Making Memories. I have no idea what the funky spot is on the letter p, as you can't see anything like that in person. It must have something to do with the dimension giving the scanner a hard time. I'd take a picture, but I'm in a hurry and I don't have time. Hope the rest of our week-end goes well!

Flight of Challenge (365 cards- Day 160)

365 Cards Day 160 challenge was Lovely Lace. You could use any amount of lace on your card, as long as you used some lace. I once again pulled a page from by Monet Year In A Box Calendar. Today we are in the poppy fields. The little girl with her lace apron is from Delafield Rubber stamps. The poppies are from a stamp I carved from Nasco Safety Cut. Coloring was done with Prismacolor Pencils.

Flight of Challenge (365 cards- Day 159)

I'm on a roll. It is Thursday and I'm doing Thursday's challenge on 365 Cards, Day 159 Setting The Scene- Indoors. I think the kitchen definitely qualifies as indoors. It took no time at all to create the card. First I stamped the stove (Stampa Barbara) on the white card stock using black Memories ink. Then I masked the stove and stamped the wallpaper border (origin???) over and over across the top of the card using Coral Red Ancient Page Ink. Next I cut and glued on the red and white checked paper which was once the liner of a box lunch to serve as the floor. I then drew in the chair rail and boards using a black Micron Pigma Pen by Sakura. I stamped the Pillsbury Dough Boy (Stamp Camp) on white card stock, colored in his eyes and hat symbol with a light blue gel pen, and cut him out. I attached him with foam tape so he is popped out. I printed the sentiment on the computer and cut it out using a McGill label punch, layering it onto a scrap of red paper before taping to the card. Quick as that I was done!

Flight of Challenge (365 cards- Day 158)

365 Cards Day 158 is today so I'm finally caught up! The challenge: What's your Sign?, make sure there is a sign on your card. Obviously I thought of my Ziggy looking at a billboard stamp(Stampendous). The message is from Viva Las Vegastamps! The grass came from ??? and with a little masking I added the tree in the background (Stamp Francisco(Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers). A little coloring with Prismacolor Pencils and stenciling with Colorbox ink and I was done!

Flight of Challenge (365 cards- Day 157)

365 Cards challenge for Day 157 was Imagine This: Sunflowers. All cards needed to be inspired by sunflowers. This was an easy challenge. I love sunflowers. I love being in France and seeing the fields of sunflowers. I love watching the Tour de France and watching the bicyclists fly by the fields of sunflowers.

Flight of Challenge (Cute Card Thursday #71)

While looking for something interesting to do I found this blog. Their challenge was "Let's Get Fruity". My fruit of choice today was the pear. On top is the front of the card and on the bottom is the inside. Some gals I now are just "fruity" about pear images so now I'm ready when one of their birthdays rolls around later this month.

Flight of Challenge (Card Positioning Systems 126)

Here is my version of this week's Card Position System sketch #126. I'm sending this to a friend whose husband has been very ill. I asked a mutual friend how our friend was doing and she said, "I think she is up to her eyeballs". So that was the prompt for this goofy thing! I think if she is "up to her eyeballs" she probably needs a chuckle anyway.

A few minutes ago in the shade it was 103 degrees F, but my computer says it is 107. Yesterday I told you our cable TV was out. Seems it was taken down by a hay truck(not the heat) and Charter Communications is debating whether or not to fix it or drop our service. Anybody have any recommendations about which is better satellite service, Dish Network or Direct TV? We may have to make that decision soon so any input would be appreciated.
