Flight of a Scrapling

Wow!  Imagine that.  A blog just vegetating for almost  a year while life got in the way.  Yet suddenly I felt motivated to breathe a breath of life into it and enter this week's challenge on the Riley and Company blog.  It must be the scent of fall in the air and the perpetual "cuteness" of Riley the Moose that made me do it.  So without further ado, let me introduce you to the challenge of the scrapling as described on the Riley  blog:

So what are scraplings???? Scraplings are normally 1.25" x 4.25" because they are often made from the off cuts you get when you make a square card (4.25" square) from a piece of card that is 4.25" x 5.5". However if you are like me your scraplings may be a little wider depending on what you are working on at the time. Now for me 1.25" is way too narrow and I normally have wider card then that left over so you can makes yours wider .... BUT for this challenge they cannot be any wider then 2.5 inches that is for the base of the scrapling ... you can have wider pieces hanging off your scrapling if you like, but that is up to you."

Riley The Moose "Under The Tree"

In my scraps I first found the brown card stock, 2 1/2" by 11".  That can be my card.  Then I spied an irregular piece of yellow that had been "attacked by a Cricut".  I managed to salvage a piece a little under 2 1/2" by 5 1/2" to serve as the scrapling base.  Next I pondered a Riley image.  There was Riley "Under The Tree".  I quickly stamped out two of these with Momento Tuxedo Black ink on Neenah Solar white card stock and colored both with my Copics.  One I left intact and the other I started cutting up.  I cut out Riley's arm, belly and legs into one piece which I foam taped on top of the first image to give Riley his cute little round belly look.  Then I started cutting out the leaf clusters and applied some on the ground, to cover the flower in the base image and to cover the butterfly in the base image.  Next I pawed through the "tree and leaf" stamp drawer where I found the "leaves are falling" image from studio g.  I stamped that directly onto the yellow scrapling using "Rich Cocoa" Momento ink and colored it too with Copics.  Looking through the embossing folder stash I found a bare tree limb folder in the Cuttlebug "Give a Hoot" collection and used it to emboss about the top 3/4 of the yellow scrapling using the Big Shot.  Next I glued my base Riley image into place before mounting the scrapling onto the brown card.  This didn't quite look finished so it was back to the stamp drawer where I found the Aspen leaf by Alexstamping.  It got stamped three times onto Neenah Solar white with Momento Rich Cocoa and colored with Copics before being mounted on onto the scrapling with foam tape.
Then I promptly went outside and photographed it, where else, under the tree.  I took a closer photo too to better show the detail.

Flight of Celebration

Happy Birthday to the Texas branch of the Fine Feathered Friends of Flamingos!  The card is in the mail.  Gotta love those Viva Las Vegas Stamps!

Flight of Autumn

It is already mid-October and the leaves are taking their time changing in my neck of the woods.  I saw this image in the UK magazine Simply Cards & Papercrafts (Issue 88) and I had to use it.  It is in the digi-stamps and sentiments by David Parkins page insert.  Though the photo doesn't show the dimension well the little leaves are some I pulled off an oak leaf mini garland and are actually silk.  The ribbon was floating loose in the drawer so I don't remember its source.  The same goes for the light blue card paper.  The light brown paper is a page out of an old Sizzix catalog and was just the right color.  Every thing else was colored with Copic markers.

Now if it would only stop raining so the squirrels around here can start strutting around juggling acorns!

Flight of a closed door, day nine

Today brings us to the end of the Door ATC series. This one is called Door & Poultry. This all started on August 2, 2001 so you can go back to that post to see the stamp credits. I recently read that today only 16% of Americans are considered to be living in "Rural America". You don't know what you are missing living in the city. I have a black and white cat( and many others in a rainbow of colors) outside my door quite often. I've had a brown dog outside my door and a Dalmatian used to live across the street. There are horses and chickens next door. Pigs and cows live nearby. Quite a few hamburgers and BBQs are in the area. I didn't make an ATC with a peacock or an ostrich or a slug or a frog or a praying mantis outside the door, but I've had them all. I've lived in other rural areas and had deer regularly outside my door. Once there was a bear. Some days it's the Schwan's man at the door, or the Watkin's lady, or the Avon lady, or the "Church" lady or man. In years past I've even had a student asking for help with their homework! Grab a door stamp and create your own Door ATC series!

appears that blogger failed to load the day eight and day nine posts when they were supposed to.
I don't think anybody is reading anyway so I guess it doesn't matter!
